I'm sure I'm not the only one who hopefully bookmarks a dozen recipes, but then sticks with her old standbys, right?

So I'm trying to vary it. And that means, btw, that I need new recipes now! Spam me. But no recipes that require spam, because ew.

Do you follow Smitten Kitchen? I hadn't before, but she was on the Diane Rheim show yesterday and the recipes she talked about sounded really good. I've ordered her cookbook but it hasn't arrived yet :)

Two recipes from my family:


The Green Stuff is really easy.
1 small pkg lemon jello
1 small pkg lime jello
1 pint sour cream
1 can crushed pineapple and juice

Pur the jello into a bowl and add 1 cup boiling water. Mix until dissolved.
Add sour cream and beat until smooth and fluffy
Add pineapple and the juice from the can. Mix

Pour into 1 1/2 quart (6 cup) lightly oiled (Pam works great) mold. Chill at least 4 hours. Unmold and serve. Hint to unmold - You can place the pan in warm water ( water should only come about 3/4 to the top) very briefly 30 seconds or so - and then turn out on plate.

Now for the Kugel -
This will make about 12 good pieces.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Spray an oven proof pan - 9X11 or 13 pyrex or something like that with Pam

1/2 lb wide noodles (cook apx 12 minutes at full boil)
3 eggs beaten
In separate bowl combine
1/2 lb cottage cheese
1/2 stick melted=2 0butter (I use unsalted - either would work)
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup sour cream (small container)
1/2 teasp. cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins
1 apple cored, peeled and sliced thin
pinch salt
1/2 teasp. vanilla
Mix the above together and then mix in noodles. Fold in beaten eggs.
Bake in greased pan apx 1 hour at 350 uncovered. Check after 20 minutes if the noodles are browning too fast put some foil over the top.

I hear ya. Right now I'm hooked on squash. I just found a webpage featuring 25 recipes with butternut squash. I really want to experiment this winter. Will I follow through? Dunno, but I hope so.
