The three queens I just got fixed have finally decided they know each other

and they've tentatively started grooming each other's faces, but not - happily! - any other parts of their bodies.

Plus, the mama has calmed down enough to accept attention from me, and I was finally able to get the stupid cone over her head. She hasn't been licking her incision, so I didn't push the issue when she growled at me, but I feel very relieved now.

However, all of them look like they've lost weight. They aren't devouring their food (but neither are they leaving SO MUCH behind that I'm worried about that!), so I don't think they're starving, but they all look... well, smaller. Is this just because they're missing an internal organ (and it's all for the best) and now they have more skin than stomach? Or should I call the doctor?

Well, of course all this has been stressful for them, so they probably have lost some weight, but as long as they're eating and drinking water, they'll fatten back up in their own good time. There isn't much the vet could do about how much they eat, unless they were so malnourished they had to be fed with a syringe.

You might buy them a bag of tasty kitty vitamin treats - that will make them happy at least, and it couldn't hurt. Good luck!

The boys didn't lose any weight, but then, the boys didn't come back from the vet convinced their brothers were strangers, the girls took three days to trust each other again and I only have one room to put them in.

(Oddly, when I let the girl-kittens out today (I judged that mom, being big enough to hurt people when she's upset, should stay isolated at least another day), their brothers got used to them pretty fast. The girls never got used to their brothers until the stupid cone things came off.)
