Meanwhile, the newyorkers comm has its daily quota of "please adopt this cat" posts up in the form of a blind cat. This little ray of sunshine sure isn't commenting there going "Nobody's gonna want your blind cat, just toss it in the street!", even though we all do know that disabled kitties have a harder time getting adopted.

(Also, uh, anybody seen my bag? It has books in it!)

Edit: She's really just a very unpleasant person. I think if I go back there, I may lose it entirely, so could you do me a favor? Check in on the post a few times and if anybody ACTUALLY finds my bag or ACTUALLY has something useful to say, let me know? I hate to ask the favor, but I would like to refrain from cursing. I think I've been very good today.

It hasn't even been a full day. Lost and found's not even open until tomorrow in the morning - how does she know how likely it is they have my stuff? She might as well give me the chance to *call* them before declaring that it's all useless.

No, it's not just you. She's dashing your hopes, and then trying to psychoanalyze you because you mind losing things you value and having that belittled by strangers. I am currently resisting the urge to ask what so traumatized her that being told her negative advice is unhelpful is upsetting her this much.

Also, on the factual side: when I put in a lost and found report to the MTA via the website, I got an automated reply telling me that things don't arrive there for two weeks. If the ferry terminal has a separate lost and found, that might be more efficient. (Nothing was said about why they take so long, of course.)

They get 240,000 items a year, processing them takes a while. But they have a different system for the trains (goes to a central location) and the buses (goes to the local depot).

And for the record, when my sister's had to get in touch with MTA lost and found, they just mailed her back her wallet.

Also, my hopes aren't actually *dashed*. I think I actually have a very healthy assessment as to how likely I am to see my books again. I just didn't expect anybody to comment unless they really had seen them. So I went in seconds from pleasantly surprised to "What is this?"
