I don't see any problems with Hermione, but their choice to make Snape black is going to make the racists have palpitations.

To trivialize the graduation problem, they were chasing him because they said only current graduates were allowed to walk across the stage. He was not even attempting to break that rule! The baby was not walking across the stage.

To recognize the more serious problem, I am horrified that this young man faced the arrest and the prospect of losing his hard-earned degree for something so trivial. Especially when he had been told explicitly that it would be find to carry the child while receiving his diploma. ACAB.

I was completely unaware that it was being turned into a series until I read about Malkovitch being cast. I thought that was interesting. Hadn't seen anything about anyone else. The concept of a black Snape is interesting, I trust they found a good actor.

Personally, though, I watch very little TV these days and don't know that I can be bothered to watch another version of it. A lot depends on whether or not my wife is interested.

I read all the books, saw all the movies.  And I emerged more or less meh from it all.  It was fun and entertaining, I still think Terry Pratchett was a much better and more entertaining writer.  Definitely wrote a lot more books and words!

What's wrong with the little girl cast as Hermione? (And why are people like this?)

Oh for fuck's sake, there's nothing wrong with casting a person of colour as Hermione!

There's nothing wrong with casting ***any character*** as a person of colour, but Hermione has multiple references in the books to her hair having height/body/volume/texture/curls and her hair requiring more work to manage than the typically-straight hair often associated with white people does.

The Bear with Its Own ZIP Code

That reminds me of a tale from comp.risks, many years back. Someone was trying to find the nearest store of a particular chain. When he tried it at home, the results from entering his zip code gave nothing at all close. when he tried it at work, it showed several very close to his home.

This got him curious, and he spent some time entering different zip codes top try to figure out what was going on.

He finally figured out that whoever wrote the code for that page thought the zip codes that were *numerically* close were *geographically* close.

This bears no resemblance whatsoever to reality.

Remembering the old Tumblr wars between the "Hermione is studious and loves reading, feels a little out of place among her peers, and has voluminous curly hair, that means she's [South] Asian" and "Hermione is studious and loves reading, feels a little out of place among her peers, and has voluminous curly hair, that means she's Jewish" camps
