That's right - Evangeline! I picked her up from school and asked if she wanted her present NOW or on her birthday, and she said "now" so I handed it over. OMG I LOVE PIGGIE AND ELEPHANT!

I just posted my reviews of the book, in fact, focusing on the fact that this is just about the only easy reader series I've found that's NOT BORING. A lot of them try, and it's a difficult genre (see? Easy Reader is a genre that applies to picture books featuring talking animals. Fantasy... not so much), but they don't do it.

And then you end up with this book your kid only reads once or twice because it's not that interesting and they're just trying to get to the good stuff. And when they read it they read it in that awful emotionless monotone. YOU know the one.

That doesn't happen with these. Instead, they ham it up. So I've decided - next year, I'm getting all the in-print Elephant and Piggies for whoever Evangeline's teacher is. And? This book. I can't think of a better book to motivate an early reader than one where they frantically have to turn the page to save cats from drowning in a sea of fishies. (And water. A sea of fishies and water.)
