And this avocado was pitted through with this fibrous brown/black stuff, like... I don't know, like scar tissue on the inside of the flesh. On the inside of the hypothetical flesh, that is.

So, in this situation, I have two questions:

1. What causes this?

2. Since this hypothetical avocado is damaged goods, do I have to replace it? Or did I would I have saved my sister a world of trouble, so no worries there?

I think that's just the way an avocado bruises, from being dropped.

I think you have to replace it with another bad avocado, just to be fair.

I associate that with age in an avocado, although I think bruising factors in too, or may.

If it isn't too thorough, you can cut out the bits that have that and eat the rest, if it is, then that avocado is just a sad waste of an avocado. Maybe someday it will compost and turn into a happier food.
