(We actually ordered some more to be delivered to California so we'll have something new to play there!)

We have so many that Deniz, on her last visit, commented on it. (We don't have many games for adults, more for kids. Next paycheck, I'll restock our grown-up game cabinet. Suggestions?)

I've mentioned before that we play a lot of Sleeping Queens, and Evangeline is always up for a game of Froggy Boogie (we must play that tomorrow, it's far too heavy to schlep with us on a plane!), and lately Ana's been really into crazy 8s. (She has a special deck for that game, instead of using standard cards. Crazy Eights is actually why I am so into the games with her, I have so many happy memories of playing Crazy Eights with my family, and always doing the same corny things - singing "Ya Gotta Have HEART" or "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" when changing suit to hearts or diamonds, or saying "Join the club" or "Paying you back in spades" when changing to clubs or spades, or saying "Deuces never looses" when putting down a two, that sort of thing - and, later, so many memories of staying up latelateLATE playing Spit with my sister or Rummy with my mom (I remember running outside yelling at 3am the first time I won a game of Spit against Jenn!), and I just... I buy the books for them that I remember reading as a kid, and I want to have those happy memories with them as well. I mention when reading a book, or playing a game, or doing anything that I did as a child about my personal history with that activity, too. Those connections are important, I know it.)

Today we played Candyland. (I hate Candyland. Don't remember having that game as a kid, either.) Candyland is not a game that I think is very well suited for very young children, as the lack of choices (meaningful or otherwise) can be very frustrating for them (especially when the game just drags on and on), and Ana knows my feelings, so when I suggested a game, to be persnickety, she went "The only game I'll say is Candyland!" So that's what we played.

Ana won, Evangeline thought she won (despite being well behind), and I came in third. We packed up the game because 'dul was home, and I got ready to leave, and Ana got upset at me! "We have to say GOOD GAME!" she said.

I'd forgotten, of course, that at the end of a game, in order to Set a Good Example, if I've lost I shake the winner's hand and say Good Game!, to illustrate that it's the game that counts, not the end. I didn't realize it was important to Ana, though - I'm just trying to model good gamemanship. Teaches me something!

I love my nieces, I don't know if I say that often enough when posting about them. I say it to them, of course, but I don't say it to other people.

Let me say it again - I love my nieces. I love the people they are, and the people they are becoming, and the little babies they used to be.
