Well, mid-way next month, they'll be having an online discussion about them. Autistics aren't specifically mentioned as invited to online attend, but I think everybody in the world can wedge themselves into the "concerned third parties" slot.

That Video showed up on my local AP board. I presented the dissenting view. Got some interesting reactions, including a parent of an autistic child who said --- hmm, maybe it's better if I don't tell you. Or would that be worse?

Do I agree with this parent, or am I likely to think that parent is a crock of shit?

Because it's my birthday. I don't need nonsense today.

Anyway, just tell them that That Group has connections to famed racist James Watson, that it's engaged in petty turf battles that did nothing effective but keep money from local autism charities that provide services (instead of just research), that it's sued at least one autistic for running a legally allowed parody (I linked to that only a few weeks ago), and that it's run by poopyheads. People generally shut up by the time you get to that last one :)

Just a few days ago, I listed my (long) list of grievances in a firm but polite email to mothering.com. I'd gone there to check out an article on slings, and saw - That Link.

And now it's not on their front page anymore, so I guess they listened!

As I said then, there's a lot of bad things to say about That Organization, and not, as near as I can tell, a heck of a lot of good. This goes a lot deeper than just "I don't like talk of cures", y'know?

On a completely random note, this is as good a place as anywhere to post this: Ari Ne'eman of ASAN just IMed me to say he sends you his regards, he finds your blog interesting, and he'd be interested in chatting with you if you're so inclined. (I'll let you know his AIM name if you so wish.)

I haven't spoken on AIM in ages, but that was partially because I was avoiding somebody, and anyway, I've just found out something shocking about him (well, not that shocking, and it makes me feel less guilty about avoiding him, anyway), so... I don't know. I'll get back to you/him.
