Yay!

Here's one nifty, largely useless chart.
And here's another.

She's supposed to be eating with her fingers now. Don't know why, seems a bit silly - people in my family usually eat with their mouths instead.

She does pick up food with her fingers and put it in her mouth, but she's been doing that since before we let her have food. Except then it wasn't food but, y'know, scrunchies and socks.

1. She totally has tantrums now. And she gets very modified time-outs - we sit her down, and wait for her to calm down, and redirect her.

Ana gets upset when we ask her to sit down, and actively does things like tell us babies can't get time-outs, or talks to her/plays with her and then explains that since the baby is talking/playing, she's not *really* having a time-out, because babies can't get time-outs.

Of course, the baby's not Ana. She's not being punished, she's just taking a break from screaming so she can be redirected towards something she can do. So we're not keeping her from playing, and Ana doesn't get that.

2. She's cutting teeth. Well, she was - that may be on hold, but for a while she had three or four coming in at once.

3. She said fishy today! And signed it! While looking at a fish, and then later while looking at a picture of a fish, and she pointed to the picture when I asked! She's big on fish - loves seeing them in ponds and aquaria.

(I told her the word and prompted her, the first few times, but when looking at the book she signed it without seeing me sign it, though I did say the word again.)

4. She refused almost all her lunch in favor of the chicken today. Last week, she didn't eat any of her salad but the raw onions.

5. She's still all about Ana. Ana, for her part, mostly cares about her sister's well-being - but she's starting to push or hit her sister when she feels slightly wronged, or when she's upset at somebody who can fight back, like me. That's not acceptable, and gets her an automatic time-out.

6. The baby mostly sits still when having her hair done. I do my part and never try anything fancier than a few pigtails.

7. She understands a lot of words and phrases. Things like "shut the door" "put that back" and "get the book/bear/sock/ana/fishy/hat..." and so on.

8. She loves to carry a bear around and wear it, like her sister does. But then she gets frustrated and wants it down. Then up. Then down. I give up and put it on her back, where she can't realize it's up and complain.

9. She nods her head very enthusiastically if I figure out what she wants and tell her. "Oh, you wanted more water? Okay!"

10. She's big into copying signs and words right now, like within the past week or so.

11. She can do a lot of songs, copying the motions for them - and showing some of them so we start singing :) That's great fun for her.

12. When she wants to go up, she'll bring her mei-tai or kanga or, in a pinch, wrap to me and wait. When she doesn't want to go up, she'll run away and giggle. She can really run now! She never wants to go up when I want her to, and always wants to go up when I want her down. It's another evil psychic power of hers.
