I hadn't intended to put her in it for real trips so soon, but it was rainy and cool out, so I thought it would be warmer than the mei-tai. (And it was.)

I got stopped by somebody who said "I couldn't do that, it would hurt my back". Well, her baby was in a Bjorn, in the front.

And I tried explaining to her that front carries hurt your back more than back carries, and that the Bjorn isn't the best designed carrier out there and will (I'm told) hurt your back more than another type of carrier (I dragged out my mei-tai to show her), but I don't think she heard that. She said she'd been in a car accident, but she didn't seem to hear that on the back, or with more support spread wide out, is better for the back.

Oh well. I did try. And maybe she did listen, and is right now finding out all about the wonderful world of mei-tais. (I'd stopped short of explaining the wrap concept, figuring that all those miles of fabric might be too much for her to start :P)

Once we got to the museum and took the baby off, Ana, of course, said she wanted to go in the wrap. Well, of course she did. It's the new thing! And not five minutes later, I hear the cheerful noise of "I wanna get down and listen to the story!" (Of course I do.) I had seen that coming, but it didn't make me feel any better :)

Oh, and speaking of back carries, [livejournal.com profile] hopefulnebula, I hope you're happy! This is all your fault! I spent an entire train ride yesterday reaching behind me, holding the baby's hands, and going 'No, Evangeline, gentle, be gentle'. For the entire ride. No doubt the people on the train thought she was crying because I was being mean and she didn't like being up there, hence the hairpulling. I knew she was crying (and pulling my hair, to be honest) because she was tired. But she would never have done that without your bright idea! You and that dumb comment!

Or she could have used a front wrap, and at least the kid's legs wouldn't be split apart by her mode of transportation.

Still, even a front carrier is more intimate than a stroller...
