But it turned out to be Swedish Midsummer Festival instead. (Get that - Midsummer. The MIDDLE of SUMMER, not the START.)

Drum circle starts next week, every Friday.

This was fun, though. I bought some overpriced meatballs (the universal food!), and some waffles, and we did a few circle game/dances (Ana and Deniz liked them when they deigned to participate, otherwise by "we" I mean "I"), and it was fun. There was one where we were frogs, and then pigs, and there was one where everybody ran in, then out, then in and fell down, and there was one where we banged on the ground and spun in circles clapping, and, really, who *doesn't* appreciate the opportunity to stand with a bunch of people and make a complete fool of oneself?

(Seriously, despite the snark, I really *do* enjoy that, at least in the limited form of circle games. Hey, they're fun!)

So I'll be doing this next year... and the next year... and the next year. Because it's fun.

Edit: The frog song has a tune and lyrics, though you probably already know the song if you can read Swedish.

According to my (albeit brief) research, either could be correct.

But solstice is defined as the middle of winter/summer, even if it doesn't seem like it. :)

Isn't this precisely what you're saying *scratches head* That the summer solstice comes at the middle of summer (midsummer) not at the start of it.

Ah, Swedish midsummer. The memories... The crazy dance...

You didn't eat strawberries? I gathered they were traditional.

It's logical if you think about it.

Because from now on, the days get shorter. Therefore, that was the middle of SOMETHING, because up until then the days were getting longer.

Halfway, of course. After that he's running OUT of the woods.

(I had a fifth-grade teacher who used to dress those questions up with numbers for extra credit. Here's an example:

Extra Credit, 5 points.
Sam lives on Oahu. He walks a lot because he doesn't own a bike and he's not old enough to drive. His average walking speed is four miles per hour. He has a friend named Ken who lives 23 miles away on Maui. How long will it take Sam to walk to Ken's house?

There was really only one wrong answer, and that was dividing four into twenty-three. If you replied that it would take him several weeks (because of the scuba lessons), that he Couldn't Get There From Here, that first he'd have to learn to walk on water, etc., you got the credit.)

That was me, dammit.
