maladaptive....
May. 3rd, 2006 09:26 pmHere's the question. I know I'm probably a bit biased when it comes to religion because I'm not religious. At all. And then you see these fundies, and even though you *know* the vast majority of religious people are perfectly reasonable people... you end up twisting your views a little to see all religious people as potentially creepy and illogical and, well... insane. In a bad way. After all, they all believe in weird things that can't be proven, right? Right? It's all fascinating, but... different.
But I'm told that many religious people have the same views about non-religious people. And I know full well that most people on either side don't recognize their own bias when they walk right into it.
So, here's my question: Are there any atheist/agnostic fundies out there I haven't encountered before? Because I'd like to see, just for my own edification. I'm not sure if my belief that there aren't any is because, well, there aren't any, or if it's because I just don't see them as much/clearly.
(Oh, and click the scary link. Thanks)

Date: 2006-05-08 03:49 am (UTC)Hey, did you know that today's modern president, king, and dictator is terrified of the Catholic Church sending a death squad after him?
WHO KNEW????
I want a bunch of Chick Tracts so I can check the "no" box. It'd be a great time-waster.

Date: 2006-05-08 05:20 am (UTC)They're right - I shouldn't listen to the opinions of other humans no smarter than I am (and often dumber and with questionable motives such as wanting to influence my beliefs to serve their own purposes) about religion. Thank you Chick for making the argument to ignore you.
I've been reading about the origin of the King James Bible, protestanism, and several other related issues. That really isn't a fair description of how Protestanism started. And I don't think the actual point Luther made regarding indulgences was very convincing. I agree that it's good to read for yourself, and I feel that anyone who is truly religious in a fashion that makes them believe that the Bible is the writings of a good god who has given them the knowledge of how to live through this book should obviously spend a good portion of their life studying Hebrew and Greek so that they can read it for themselves and form their own opinions of what it says, for if this is the book given by the wisest being in all existence with the way for us to live then doing anything else is simply ridiculously nonsensical. And good translations should be made available for those poor people who despite study cannot learn Hebrew and Greek, and all parents should teach their children those languages so they will not have to suffer in ignorance and at the risk of others as those people during the Middle Ages did, using a translation of the Bible that contained a few mistakes.
