1. Pictures I took came back. Unfortunately, due to my liberal use of flash (oops...) a lot of them show up with a fine-looking Ana... and a really dark background. Plus, a few of them are washed out. The cute ones I took of the spaceship onesie (and the baby inside)? Can't see the pattern on the onesie at all. Drat. We need to find our digital camera.

2. I'm thinking I may have to start a comm. It's easier to take care of them if we have things to do - and, if done right, I could set up a community specifically for the NYC area which discusses specifically things-to-do involving kids. Not a general advice community, or discussion community, just a place to share information. What say you? (Plus, I'd get to advertise freely for french-speaking families, because it'd be MY COMM! Yeah!)

3. A. Friday, Ana and the baby and I went to the museum, as is our wont. We stayed later than usual, so got to see "Animal Time", where the children get to see and talk about the resident guinea pigs and birds in the museum. The bird refused to come down from his perch (much too smart for this game), but the guinea pig was happy being pet and fed a lettuce leaf. Ana was *thrilled*, and polite. At one point, she starts fiddling with the animal's bedding, so I tell her, gently, that we don't touch that. And she crosses her arms in front of her chest. It took me a minute to realize why... "No, sweetie, you can pet the guinea pig, just don't touch the paper." "OH! *patpatpat*" It was so sweet of her.

B. That same day, in an attempt to settle her down for a nap (she's in hyper-mode of doom), I sit down with her brown bear to read, appropriately, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?".

Before I even turn the page, Ana has taken the brown bear from me, and the book, and started 'reading'.

"Bwown Beah. Bwown beah. What. Do. You. See? I see WED BIRD. Looking. At. Me! *turns page* Wed bird. Wed bird. Whaddayou see? I see... *turns page* DUCK! Looking me! Duck, duck, what are you doing? I see *turns page* FWOGGIE! Looking at me! Fwoggy, fwoggy, what are you doing?"

And on like that until the fish, which quickly turned into a chasing and kissing fest until I stuck her on her bed and watched her fall asleep, fast.

There was a NYC community like that but nothing ever came of it, I think I left ages ago...

They weren't active and they seemed very -- Manhattan/Park Slope/Williamsburgy, if you know what I mean. And a lot of infant stuff, really.

Hardly advertised, I dont remember how I found out. It was for the chi chi set, or so it seemed. Not for those of us who think a ferry ride is a great way to kill some time with kids.

Poor execution, I think.

Ugh. A lettuce leaf? Poor piggy.

Glad you had fun, though. :-)

The poor piggy comment? Lettuce gives them diarrhoea and has no nutritional value for them. Much better to give it a brassica like broccoli or cabbage, or a carrot.

Yeah, except broccoli and cabbage both tend to cause painful gas. :P

Weird. It hasn't done that to mine, ever.
Perhaps if that were all they were getting or in huge quantities.

Also, brassica's were recommended so double weird.

I stand by the lettuce thing, though. Rodents shouldn't eat it.

Still, thanks for the info.

Hey don't get defensive, I was just being a smart ass. Lordy be, people take the internet too seriously.

Iceberg lettuce, duh, should be avoided. I'd much rather feed a guinea pig romaine than broccoli, though. I'm not a cavy person, I'm a rat person, and I did notice when given things like cabbage, broccoli (esp raw), and cauliflower, they didn't run around and play as much. Since they're prey animals, they are pros at hiding discomfort and pain. But enh, to each his/her own.

Guess I might as well stick myself into the "people who take the internet too seriously" category after that comment, eh?

Nothing to do with taking the 'net too seriously, I'm just serious like that when it comes to animals & stuff. Also, I don't really 'know' you so I have no idea of what your sense of humour is like & I'm not good at humour though I'm much better than I used to be.

All my animals get as close to a natural diet as I can get.

Rats have slightly different needs to cavies so maybe brassicas aren't good for them but cavies are obligated vegetarians and every decent diet sheet I've seen has lots of brassicas so it might just be one of those things.

Rats don't eat hay & grass, really, do they?
