Reading posts from people who got one as a gift. Every time I see one of those, I get my hopes up for about three seconds before remembering that my friends have no money, and that begging is disgraceful.
I understand the need to thank others, but... it really makes me feel self-consciously greedy.

Date: 2005-06-07 09:46 am (UTC)I was about to say I wouldn't feel greedy, just very lonely, since I didn't have a friend who'd buy me one, or many friends who'd pitch in with tokens... but then I thought how that thought would make me feel, and yeah, I'd be thinking, "And the friends I have should do this for me why? Who am I to them? Why should I feel entitled?"
But yeah. I totally understand.
But I don't think you're a bad person for thinking that. And if I had money, believe me, I'd try to at least pitch in a little something.

Date: 2005-06-07 11:05 am (UTC)I don't think there's anyone I'd get an £83 gift for right now, anyway. It's a hell of a lot to spend on anyone for something which is not even tangible.
