Reading posts from people who got one as a gift. Every time I see one of those, I get my hopes up for about three seconds before remembering that my friends have no money, and that begging is disgraceful.

I understand the need to thank others, but... it really makes me feel self-consciously greedy.

Greedy?

I was about to say I wouldn't feel greedy, just very lonely, since I didn't have a friend who'd buy me one, or many friends who'd pitch in with tokens... but then I thought how that thought would make me feel, and yeah, I'd be thinking, "And the friends I have should do this for me why? Who am I to them? Why should I feel entitled?"

But yeah. I totally understand.

But I don't think you're a bad person for thinking that. And if I had money, believe me, I'd try to at least pitch in a little something.

Totally serious. I thought only LJ staff and limited non-staff were granted accounts.

Wow.... you should be honored. Your FList obviously contains the only person out of 7 million who wasn't aware today was the day :). [said firmly tongue-in-cheek, please no flaming me for insulting anybody]

And on a side note, think of all the support requests that will start arriving after Midnight complaining "I didn't know", "I was out of town", "its not fair".

I know you deserve one-and I really don't. You have to be one of the coolest people on LJ. Ah well-if you don't get one ((which someone should do)) at least they're increasing the Paid Account icon limit. I hope I don't have to pay extra extra-100 icon spaces would rock ((but I doubt I would fill them))

it sounds like it'll be another level of extra - paid accounts will continue to have 15 icons; you can pay $10 year extra to have 50 total icons, or (hypothetically) $20 year extra to have 100 total icons.

(not saying this with any sort of official backing or whatnot, just pointing out what makes economic sense. *wry grin*)

Hmm. I can afford it, and yet I don't want one all that much. I don't want extra icon space, so it's what, seven years' worth of paid account time? Oh, and I can't get the money into my Paypal account for definite at this short notice, and I'm not paying a $35 overdraft penalty on top of paying the $150.

I don't think there's anyone I'd get an £83 gift for right now, anyway. It's a hell of a lot to spend on anyone for something which is not even tangible.

I have the nasty thought that, rather than blast it out to the whole world that "HEY I GOT A PERM ACCOUNT AND DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT GO ME", people should email, call, or otherwise privately contact the gift-giver, and thank them that way.

But maybe that's just me.
