You can't be president if either your parent or your sibling was president before you.
I mean, if we can randomly prevent every non-native-born citizen from becoming president, surely we can prevent a dynasty of idiots from arising, right? That's not very different from the argument against serving more than two terms, is it?

Date: 2005-05-31 07:08 pm (UTC)New Zealand is still my destination of choice. When the rest of the world blows up, including Canada just by proximity, everyone will forget that it's got another hemisphere. I hope.

Date: 2005-06-01 12:04 am (UTC)Just because the Bushes are in power and blithering morons, I really don't see any reason to change the Constitution to prevent them from taking office. Any more than I see the necessity to change the Constitution to allow Arnie to do it.
Besides, my bet is on Guiliani. I dunno about Hilary going against him but that's a bad plan. Too many people would vote for Satan incarnate (compelete with red skin, horns & tail) before they'd vote for a qualified woman. Guiliani will run, and win, and then likely Jeb will run, and win, and THEN, in 18 years (or whatever it is), THEN the country will be sick of it, and Obama will run.

Some people didn't see the need to set a limit on how many terms one could serve, but those limits were set.

I have always viewed that requirement of the Constitution to be unjust. I don't want Arnie to run for president, but I'd be glad to see it gone.

As for the second, the why is "because it's fucking stupid". So, your parents were travelling when you were born, you can't be president? So, you were adopted, you can't be president? But if you were born here, and then spent your life from age 5 - 30 out of the country, you can come home and legally be elected? What does "being born here" have to do with anything of value?

Date: 2005-06-01 04:12 pm (UTC)Yeah, I disagree with that law as well. Not that I want Arnold as president, in fact my German-born being president is a pretty nice fantasy. But, of course, getting a woman president is just such a freakin impossibility.
So far, I like the prospect of Hilary.
