1. One often sees memes saying "Post this sentence in your journal if you, like the person posting this now, want to kiss/glomp/fuck/fuck in detail/write porn about somebody on your friends list". But where are the memes saying "Post a comment HERE if you want to do that to me"? That'd be funny. Um. On somebody else's journal, thanks.

2. People often ask for reccommendations of books/fics/fandoms. But, again, where are the memeish posts asking for books/movies/TV shows to stay far, far, far away from? That'd be considerably more useful, don't you think? Alternatively, where are the posts asking for books/movies/music/whatever that the poster would never pick up on their own, but which are still good? So you never read sci-fi. Here's your chance for people to suggest sci-fi for you! Expand your horizons!

3. All those people asking for random compliments. I actually understand why asking for random criticisms is less common (I mean, really!), but doesn't anybody have a perverse interest in what would come up?

4. Bad HTML needs to die.

I'm horribly tempted to post that second one as a meme in my journal.

I asked about good anthropology books a while ago on my journal but no one replied. :[ I know a girl who is a Cultural Anthro major and I find that stuff fascinating, but the problem is, she herself is heavily into postmodernist philosophy, which I dislike, and she only recommends me that kinds of books. :[ (Or, maybe slightly pre-postmodern, but that's far back as it goes.)

I've seen a bunch of "If you woke up and I was in bed with you, what would be your first thought?"s, and a few "If you could have a day to do anything with me, what would we do?" type memes.

I'm far too afraid of people saying mean things to post them myself, though. :) Which negates me ever asking for random criticism.

I've been planning for a while to ask people to recommend books to me from their own field of knowlege or genre of choice. I aready know about most of the really good books on SF&F, or physics, or whatever. I want to know the must reads in detective novels, or hisotry of the 18th century, or whatever. The ifechanging books that I just haven't come across because they aren't about a subject I'd normally be interested in. It's on my list of things to do after I've finished my exams and no longer have to worry about things that eat my time.

Oh, and I hate hate hate the "post this sentence to your journal if..." memes.

Hmmm, 3b does actually really interest me. Maybe I'll post it when I'm in a more masochistic mood.

1. I hate those. Much as I hate the "I'm going to post vague remarks about all of you, but not tell anyone which refers to whom". I don't even mind if someone's going to tell me something anonymously, but if they're going to talk about me where they know I can hear, they better make it clear it *is* me. :P

2. Meh, it's hit and miss enough trying to rec stuff; some of my favorite stuff makes my nearest and dearest yawn, or gag -- and frankly that tends to upset me a bit. I don't feel like seeing things I love get reamed on my flist, or possibly reaming something that someone I like happens to love. Call me a pussy.

3. Actually, there was one like that going around awhile ago. I suspect the compliments one persists more because it's less apt to generate flamewars. ;)

4. SO MUCH WORD ON A WORD BUN. *glares at OKCupid and its shitty shitty quiz code*

if it matters, all I'd like to do 'to' you would be to actually set you down and talk to you.

or chat. sommat like that. a more rapid form of communication than LJ.

I'd tell someone on 2b (point out something that you would NEVAR EVAR get) to buy Magic: The Gathering books. They're pretty good as fantasy goes. some of them.

I've often considered your #3 suggestion. Everyone say something bad about me! BUt I've yet to follow through, mostly because I don't post those attention-sucking memes.
