We spent fully half an hour discussing the schedule and getting handouts. Honestly, the number of trees which have been slaughtered for this class is staggering.

And look at one of the handouts. It starts off "Ladies Nite Open Mic". Now, I'm not going to tackle the abomination which is nite, since I know they did that on purpose. But what about the Ladies? Shouldn't that be "ladies'" instead? Why, yes, yes it should! Morons.

It gets better, though. You didn't think I'd make an entire post just to bitch about one lost apostrophe, did you?

Ever feel like your voice is not being heard? The Revolutionary Alliance of Womyn (RAW) in conjunction with the Women's Center is sponsoring an Open MIc for all womyn and myn.

First, there should be a comma after "Revolutionary Alliance of Womyn (RAW). But more importantly...

WOMYN AND MYN???

WTF?

I grudgingly don't complain about "womyn". I understand the twisted logic behind that spelling, along with its lack of etymology. Personally, I'd prefer to just bring back were and wereman, but people don't listen to me... However, back on topic, what the fuck is up with "myn"? How does that prove anything other than that you think ys are cool? Is the E evil? Did it slaughter innocents? Must w boycott th most popular lttr in the Nglish alphabt?

DOWN WITH... UH... THAT LTTR!

I'm so laughing at that flyer that I won't even (vn) get into the discussion itself.

My mom pointed out a long time ago how history is in no way "his story" (they tried to tell her that in catchecism sp? class) since she spoke French as well, and it most certainly does NOT make sense for histoire to break down as "his toire". I think that was one of the first steps away from religion thta she took - and she was only about 6!

Bwaha. Womyn and myn. *giggles helplessly*

I read a funny story once about the letter O going missing and the results of this disappearance (one of them was that Caca Cala suddenly became a much less popular beverage). Alas, I don't remember who wrote it.

Wow.
That... makes no sense. None. None at all. I'm sitting here trying to come up with a plausible reason why they might have done that, but there's nothing. And I'm normally quite good at rationalising these sorts of things.
I mean, not only is that completely pointless, it actually makes the "womyn" pointless as well, so it's doubly pointless. And nobody caught that?
I'm a little bit scared right now.

ROFL, "womyn and myn" - obviously a strategy of political correctness, because, consider: are any men likely to show up at an Open Mic Night sponsered by RAW and the Women's center? I'd guess pretty definitely not, for fear of suffering the same fate as Pentheus met at the hands of the Bacchae - such gatherings are no good place for penis-wielding members of the species.

So... calling them "myn" serves to give warning of the fact that penis-wielders are not actually welcome and would be much happier staying home with their Playstations that night - in case anybody couldn't figure that out for themselves - without saying so right out loud. Can't be 'exclusive', y'know - it wouldn't be Politically Correct to only invite 'womyn', and certain womyn would doubtless have a hissy-fit if they did, because they're hoping to try to drag their tame boyfriends along to this function.

How typically sideways, y'know? That whole "sideways" quality is the major reason I'm not a feminist; I think it's probably the major reason why so many women aren't feminists. Also because "feminist" is a silly word, as silly as "masculist" would be if there were any myn men willing to go around calling themselves such a thing.

I have to say, Pentheus may have been torn to bloody shreds by the maenads, but I bet he didn't first have to endure several hours of angst-ridden, over-wrought free verse about Victimhood and Survivorship and the trite platitudes of what passes itself off as "Spirituality" these days, interspersed with bitchy filksongs. Then again, those gatherings probably haven't changed much over the millenia, so perhaps he did. Poor guy.

I always thought that the whole point of alternate spellings like "womyn" was precisely not to have "men" in there. So it makes no sense to then refer to the guys as "myn" because you've gone right back to the original problem.

Then again, I always thought "womyn" was pretty stupid to begin with.
