We spent fully half an hour discussing the schedule and getting handouts. Honestly, the number of trees which have been slaughtered for this class is staggering.

And look at one of the handouts. It starts off "Ladies Nite Open Mic". Now, I'm not going to tackle the abomination which is nite, since I know they did that on purpose. But what about the Ladies? Shouldn't that be "ladies'" instead? Why, yes, yes it should! Morons.

It gets better, though. You didn't think I'd make an entire post just to bitch about one lost apostrophe, did you?

Ever feel like your voice is not being heard? The Revolutionary Alliance of Womyn (RAW) in conjunction with the Women's Center is sponsoring an Open MIc for all womyn and myn.

First, there should be a comma after "Revolutionary Alliance of Womyn (RAW). But more importantly...

WOMYN AND MYN???

WTF?

I grudgingly don't complain about "womyn". I understand the twisted logic behind that spelling, along with its lack of etymology. Personally, I'd prefer to just bring back were and wereman, but people don't listen to me... However, back on topic, what the fuck is up with "myn"? How does that prove anything other than that you think ys are cool? Is the E evil? Did it slaughter innocents? Must w boycott th most popular lttr in the Nglish alphabt?

DOWN WITH... UH... THAT LTTR!

I'm so laughing at that flyer that I won't even (vn) get into the discussion itself.

However, in Spanish, historia does actually mean story and history. Let alone , genero vs sexo for genre/gender/sex.

Yes, but does it mean HIS story, versus HER story, or just A story? That's the issue here. :-) The nuns contention was that history meant HIS story, as in, the story of Jesus (or god, I dunno.) In any case, that perception is how you get well-intentioned, if misinformed (or perhaps just a marketing ploy, in which case it's okay), feminist projects that deal with "herstory."

Provided I'm remembering correctly, "manliness" is a feminine noun in Latin.

No, it does not mean his story linguistically. However, the fact remains that the vast majority of historical recorders and historical events centered on men. And the writer always determines a certain pov/bias. Thus I support herstory to some extent as an idea, just not etymologically.

*nods* and that last bit I disagree with. Although the bible is a version of that kind of history/people who thought that way about God story (or people who wanted to create a new religion story)
