The Sci-Fi channel has been showing all the old (or several of the old, anyway) Battlestar Galactica episodes, presumably to lead up to the new series. Right now they're into Galactica 1980. I'm confused. I'm hardly the expert here, but I thought that in the original series, they met up with humans from Earth, and that their Earth was in our future - more advanced technology, the cold war taken to its sci-fi predictable limit, that sort of thing. But now, in this series, they're on Earth, and it's just standard 1980s problems. Did they forget the entire first series or something?

Regarding 1980, those of us who had any respect for the original series prefer to pretend that, much like Star Trek V, it doesn't actually exist. Galactica 1980 is shit."
... he said I didn't have to type that last part, but I did anyway. His first reaction when I mentioned it was "AAAAH! DON'T WATCH IT!"

Yes, you are right about them meeting up with humans from Earth. They completely ignored everything.
