The Sci-Fi channel has been showing all the old (or several of the old, anyway) Battlestar Galactica episodes, presumably to lead up to the new series. Right now they're into Galactica 1980. I'm confused. I'm hardly the expert here, but I thought that in the original series, they met up with humans from Earth, and that their Earth was in our future - more advanced technology, the cold war taken to its sci-fi predictable limit, that sort of thing. But now, in this series, they're on Earth, and it's just standard 1980s problems. Did they forget the entire first series or something?

From the boy, who is a nerd:

"The Earth in the original Battlestar was an alternate Earth -- made clear in Episode 22, "Experiment in Terra." Regarding 1980, those of us who had any respect for the original series prefer to pretend that, much like Star Trek V, it doesn't actually exist. Galactica 1980 is shit."

... he said I didn't have to type that last part, but I did anyway. His first reaction when I mentioned it was "AAAAH! DON'T WATCH IT!"

Oh God No!! Turn off the TV and step away.

BattleStar Galactica 1980 is the most wretched thing ever. Stick with the original series and run away screaming whenever 1980 is attached to it.

Yes, you are right about them meeting up with humans from Earth. They completely ignored everything.

That is pretty much the reaction of anyone who sees it. RUN AWAY!

So much worse. At least the Buffy movie could be somewhat appreciated as a cult classic. This wretched creation is even shunned by those that were involved with it.

Galactica 1980 is really, really bad.

In the original Battlestar Galactica they met up with people from a planet called Terra, where they were at war with the Eastern Alliance. The people on Galactica thought Terra might be Earth, but it wasn't.

Terra was just some random planet out there that was very Earth-like, as far as I know. The people were indeed human. I don't think the show ever explained where these humans came from who were on planets that the Galacticans visited on their journey. Were they members of the lost thirteenth tribe who had settled there instead of going to Earth? Were they settlers from the Colonies who had left the Colonies in search of some new world to settle?

Oh, yeah, "Galactica 1980" was terrible. I watched the first three eps this afternoon on the Skiffy channel. Bad writing, weak storyline, plot holes you could drive a Mack truck thru. Dreadful. Ugh.
