The only explanation I can come up with is that she says stuff like that for the sole purpose of provoking people. (And Acaciah, her statement IN NO WAY represents the view of Christianity.)

This is a person who is not interested in dialogue. She is not interested in solving problems. She is not interested in resolving conflicts. She is interested in attacking and mocking other people. She is "entertainment" (to use the term in its loosest sense), and cannot be construed as a legitimate commentator.

However, her entertaining diatribes can serve a strategic purpose in fueling the resentments and prejudices of right-wingers -- inflaming the lowest instincts. And of course, that is indeed how the right wing strategists seem to function.

Sorry for going all pensive about it, but a comment like that is so deeply disturbing on all levels. It makes me sick to my stomach.

While I appreciate the sentiment, I am from the Deep South, and I see too much evidence to the contrary in my immediate surroundings. My own father's a Southern Baptist. Women are seen and not heard. *greenface* The only way Christianity might get me back is to tell these sort of people to pack it in. Until they do that, I know it's not the religion for me.
