Special punishments for people who harm children? I don't really understand the 'child is more than the adult' mentality, since hurt is hurt, however old you are. No one deserves abuse, rape, or anything like that. No one.
But maybe I'm a cold, unfeeling bitch, I don't know. I do acknowledge that for my apparent lack of maternal intstinct for children, I won't have any. It's things like this that remind me of my desire not to want to have children. What if I did that? I'd be a monster, too.
It's a shame this sort of thing is becoming more and more common. Either that, or we're catching it more, I'm not sure. Still, poor kid.
The idea, I think, is that the child can't defend him/herself, while the adult (theoretically) can. People get equally upset when it's OMG HE HURT A BLIND MAN too, unless the blind man is in a coma or something, then it's all mercy.
I think that makes the most sense, but some adults can't defend themselves... I particularly feel bad in elderly abuse cases, but oh well. Yeah, makes sense.
I perhaps didn't explain that as I wanted too. I didn't mean it in the 'child is more than the adult' mentality, as I agree with you that hurt is hurt, and no one deserves to be hurt. And those who hurt others should be punished. I guess in my mind, it's just that if you were to approach me and ask me something, and I did not reply to your liking, you could attempt to shake me in the manner this woman did to this child, but I, being an adult, have a chance to defend myself (more so that a 2 year old, simply from a size perspective).
But I agree, it's either more common now, or we just hear about it more ... either way, it's a sad thing :(

I don't get special punishments for that sort of thing. It makes children more valuable, and therefore the everyone else less important.
yanno?
