Because it kills.

Yes, this boy committed suicide - but he was killed by the people who wouldn't let it drop, who had to bother him day after day. I shouldn't have to say this, it should be obvious, but there's always somebody who thinks I'm wrong, that if the bullied had just fit in, had conformed more, it would be different. Well, that's not true. If the victim fits in, the bullies just switch to somebody new. The only way to stop it is to make sure everybody knows that this is unacceptable.

You know what I hate about this? He was called homophobic names, and everyone has to jump up and immediately say, "But he wasn't gay." The same thing happened with the case of Hamed Nastoh, a boy who filled his backpack with rocks and jumped off a bridge in Vancouver a few years ago. He was bullied too, and called "gay" and "fag." His family went to a lot of trouble to tell the media, "He wasn't really gay." What the fuck difference does it make if he was or wasn't? It wouldn't have made bullying him okay if he had been gay.

Yeah, I know. His sister hedged her statement, that was nice: It shouldn't matter if he was gay or not [yay?] but he wasn't [drat!].
