The amount of misinformation contained here is scary.

It is perfectly natural to not masturbate. Some people just don't. And, of course, it's perfectly natural to masturbate, and to want to - it will not make you go blind, grow hair, or get pimples. I'm a bit wary of searching for a link to prove that a lack of masturbation isn't connected to a frequency of wet dreams (don't want to find nothing but porn!) but I'm 93% confident that I am correct in that statement.

Nobody *has* to masturbate. You won't die if you don't. It's just that most people prefer to than to not.

Thank goodness for [livejournal.com profile] coyotemama's comment there-- as with sperm that do not join with the egg, "unused" sperm die off within 24 hours, are absorbed into the surrounding membranes, and go through the normal excretory system for removing waste.

If one had only ejaculation as a means of getting rid of these little buggers, men would have to ejaculate at least once per day, simply to get rid of the dead ones. In fact, men would end up ejaculating multiple times per day. While there are men who do so anyway, it's not a biological necessity.

The argument on the link between masturbation and wet dreams may be true, but it has little to do with the pure biological mechanism of eliminating unwanted sperm, and more to do with gratifying a frustrated sexual drive, as you noted in your comment.

I asked in my health class when I was 10, wondering the same thing; the answer was no. 24 hours; after which, there may be sperm, there may be smegma, but the sperm will not be viable-- they will be dying and too weak to fertilize an egg.
