A FB friend posted about how NYC is working on its first urban forestry plan, which should (eventually) mitigate some of the heat island effects. I admit, I was surprised NY didn’t already have one!

It may not be the first. About 15 years ago, as part of the Million Trees NYC project, New York hired 25 just-graduated foresters. Unsurprisingly, when they started forestry school the new graduates had expected to work in rural areas, but the city got more than enough applicants to fill the positions. The other thing I remember about that Million Trees project was that the nurseries promised to replace any newly planted tree that died within the first year, regardless of what killed it. That was 2012, and Superstorm Sandy killed a lot of saplings.

LOL! Yeah, I always wanted to say - "I need a job, at this point, any job would do - point me in the direction of your problem and I'll solve it and you can pay me, and life is good?"

Meanwhile, total incompetents don't get fired, and sometimes get rehired four years later....

God, yes. I'm dealing with them daily. They also get promoted and end up in management. Ugh.(Believe me, it's amazing the subways, trains and buses run on schedule or at all, or any construction gets done.)

I always think we should just straight up blame Albany for that.

It is frustratingly likely that my workplace is going to move from paychecks every week to every two weeks, and I have coworkers who I'm not sure how they will survive that transition without having to skip meals.
