My currently late Latin homework!
Sep. 29th, 2004 09:17 pmVERY late. I have no idea how I'm explaining this, either.
et aiebat Philistheus: 'ego exprobravi agminibus Israhelis hodie. Date mihi virum et ineat mecum singulare certamen'
Then the Philistine said: 'today I will (something) the forces of Israel. Give a man to me and let him begin to fight in single combat with me.'
On hearing the words of this sort from the Philistine Saul and all the israelite men were astounded and scared very much.
Now David was the son of an Ephrathite man, who was said to be above him, who was from Bethlehem in Juda, who was named Jesse, who had eight sons, and who was an old man in Saul's days, and old among men.
Now his three oldest sons had followed Saul into war: and the names of his three sons who went to war, Heliab was first, and second was Abinadab and third was Samma.
David autem erat minimus. tribus ergo maioribus secutis Saulem.
Now David was the youngest. The three oldest had followed Saul.
David went back and forth from Saul, to graze his father's flock in Bethlehem
procedebat vero Philistheus mane et vespere, et stabat quadraginta diebus
Truly the Philistine advanced day and night, and stood for 40 days.
Now Jesse said to his son David: "Take this ephah of grain and those ten loaves of yours to your brothers and run to their camp.
And bring these ten pressed cheeses to the tribune: and see if your brothers are spending their time well, and when (something something something).
Saul now, and those, and all the sons of Israel are fighting against the Philistines in the stakes made of the terebinth tree.
And so David rose up in the morning and trusted the flock to a guard and left laden just as he'd been advised by Jesse. And came to the place Magala and to the army, who was going to fight and had made its battle cry
The Israelites had indeed drawn the battle line but the Philistines also were prepared to face them.
