I love squirrels. They're hilarious, clever, daft little beasts that seem to bully each other remorselessly. I took this photo of a fat one in a local park a couple of years ago.

It only struck me when I began feeding them regularly that they have the oddest vocalisations, mostly warning calls. In the past I think I probably mistook the sounds they make for magpie and jackdaw croaks.

Hope your squirrel continues to strong-arm you into food tributes for many seasons to come.

Is it true that squirrels will get into chicken coops to steal the eggs?

Wouldn't put it past them, but I honestly have no idea.

I have seen them take eggs from nests of wild birds, but I'd guess a properly set up coop wouldn't be as attractive to them as to raccoons. They're more opportunistic foragers than predators.
