The internet... is not wrong. I really *do* want some funfetti now that I think about it. Good job, advertising! Lizziey used to love funfetti and possibly still does. Now, I could make an objectively superior cake from scratch, but realistically, I won't. (I'm not actually sure where my mixers are anyway.)

If I were to cave to advertising and nostalgia, should I make my own frosting or should I just go ahead and buy from the store anyway on the grounds that they really gouge us on butter?

Cream cheese frosting? Only a couple tablespoons of butter in that, in most recipes, and creams well by hand.

Frosting should always be the best you can do - though I cheat by buying a can of frosting, then mixing in half a package of cream cheese. It makes the frosting less super-sweet, and adds that yummy sour flavor of the cream cheese. (Also you end up with lots more frosting, which is always a benefit.

You know that funfetti cake is just regular cake with sprinkles in the batter, right? If you already have sprinkles on hand, it's easy.

Also, pretty sure you don't need a mixer for cake from scratch -- or a box mix, which is also acceptable. OTOH, around here I can buy one piece of cake for the price of a box mix, but I'm also the only one eating the cake, so that works out okay by me. (Cats and dog would probably help, but.)

The internet thinks you want funfetti cake? The most disconcerting thing about that to me is that the internet might be reading your mind!

Maaaaake it!

You know the stuff in tubs is full of weird chemicals anyway. If you make it, you can control what goes in it!

I've had many a similar rant, I'm sure, in the past :)

Especially on "frosting doesn't need 25 ingredients!"

Oooh, I looked them up and they look rather yummy (as an Aussie who grew up loving fairy bread, of course I would think that :) Can't help with the question though, my cookery skills being nonexistent.

That's lovely of you but yes, the postage is horrendous! I checked and we can get the box mixes here (they are called confetti cake at my local supermarket) and if I really ask nicely Sis might make one from scratch recipe for a special occasion :)
