One of the neighbors has two teenagers

And those teens are out night and day - during the school day, up until midnight - on motorized bikes.

I'm certain they aren't old enough to legally ride without helmets. I suspect they aren't old enough to legally ride at all, and of course not during the school day or outside so late with no supervision whatsoever.

So every time I hear them I harbor fantasies of calling child services on the family, but let's be real here - quite aside from the fact that this would probably do nothing, not at their age, I don't actually care about their welfare that much. I mean, I don't want to see them get hurt or anything, but... I really only care that they're noisy.

I wish they'd just move or something.

I've had quite good luck with neighbors moving whom I wanted to be rid of, as a schadenfreude bonus one guy I really didn't like was bitten by some karma too. Though I also now have a perfectly fine neighbor moving, to live among the redwoods in Northern California, ah well.

Suggestion, if you think they're not legal, then report them to the police. With a bit of luck their bikes will be impounded.

I do not sufficiently trust the NYPD to sic them on a couple of black teens just because those kids annoy me.

Point. That's a valid concern.

Hmm.. maybe mention to the parents that while you won't sic the police on them, and say why, others might. After all, you can't be the only neighbor annoyed by them riding around illegally.

If you present it as concern for their safety, that might work.

I'm really just venting. I'm not going to talk to the neighbors, and not only because there is no way to do that without making it sound like I'm the one threatening to call the police and/or child services on them. My guess, given how old these kids look (not very) and how far they appear to be allowed to travel (only a few blocks, though why they're limited to that when they have no curfew I don't know) I suspect they'll get bored of it all long before I get fed up enough to do something.

I feel you. I just want to be left alone. I don't want to have to hear other people all the time. My dogs love to go to the window every time a person and/or dog walks by.

There's probably something about the cc of the engine that requires or doesn't require helmets (unless helmets are mandatory on all bikes, motors or no) and how old someone has to be to operate them, but that's all basically secondary to the "will the caregivers of these teenagers give enough care to tell them that what they are doing is making a nuisance of themselves and to stop that, please?" question.

I actually have gone far enough to look up the law. If they're under 16, it's all illegal. If they're 16 or 17 it's illegal without a helmet. I'm certain they're under 18, but I'm less certain that they're under 16.
