Trump reportedly said he would reject a bailout package if it included aid to keep the US Postal Service functioning

I have said this before, and I will undoubtedly say this again. There is a cabal in the government that seeks nothing more* than to destroy the USPS for having the audacity to be a well-liked, mostly functional arm of the federal government.

This is not a conspiracy theory, except in the very literal sense that there is a conspiracy and I have a well-tested explanation for why it exists. There are some people in our government who simply want to see the world burn, starting with the post office.

For the love of god, if you have no other issue that determines how you vote, make it this one. Contact your congresscritters and keep at them and keep at them until they shape up. (And don't believe the lies about FedEx and UPS working better. They outsource everything they don't want to handle to the USPS. I suppose it's good business to do your deliveries on the cheap, but still.)

* I'm sure they want a few other things, but you can imagine what those are. It's not pretty.

It isn't like he will read anything - they tell him it isn't in there have him sign the big piece of paper and whoopsy look at those clauses on page 229.

I keep thinking that Canada made a mistake in converting the post office from a federal department into a Crown corporation.

Agreed with Trump, because USPS corrupted by trade union which protected management of USPS. Now USPS has around half million employee and Trump must first decide how use this employee when they will be laid off due to privatization of USPS?

I am confident that if they were even 1% as corrupt as Trump, the anti-post office people would have made sure we knew all about it, in excruciating detail.

and while I know that a lot of Russian users who just want to live and let live jumped ship from LJ to DW when a Russian company bought LJ, and I don't want to make prejudiced snap judgments…

I doubt this is one of those Russians. Possibly, they're here to make trouble for Russians who want to live and let live, though...among other "targets of opportunity".

One of Internet Research Agency's dirty tricks is to crack 'abandoned' accounts and then use them to spread their disinformation.

I have emailed my representative -- whose voicemail message right now is saying to *please* email rather than phone, unless it's an urgent constituent service matter and you can't email. And then both senators, because copy and paste is easier.

Then again, I'm reasonably sure that Sen. Warren has a plan for this, so it's mostly "tell her this is a priority."

Where Sen. Warren is concerned, that's probably a safe assumption. She will have a plan for it if she doesn't already.

Another reason T/the republicans want to undermine the US Postal Service:

the US Postal Service has consistently been held up as an example of better pay/better conditions being possible

by delivery drivers for Amazon/Uber Eats etc

Smart move.  It’s a Kevin Costner vanity project that drags on at least a half-hour too long (as Ridley Scott said of Blade Runner 2049, and he was right) and the result was simply boring.  Nothing of what made the novel interesting was in it.

Congress put in a requirement that the USPS fully fund its retirement obligations. No other gov't arm, and most corporations, don't do that. Another example of Congress trying to destroy it.

The parts of the country that vote Republican are the places that will miss the USPS the most. Rural areas are uneconomical for delivery, so the costs there to mail a letter or get a package will skyrocket.
