Doing our utmost best to avoid extraneous contact with my mother for at least these two weeks. Taking my temperature daily. After two weeks... I don't know. We can't all keep avoiding her.

Who's (possibly) sick or exposed? You or your mom? I feel like I missed a post somewhere.

You didn't. We're just being extra cautious because she's a 70 year old woman who uses oxygen after a lifetime of smoking and two near-deaths due to pneumonia after her bout with cancer. Living in NYC it's probable we've all been exposed. It's a little rampant here!

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm hurting hard over NY right now as a former native myself.

What really gets me is that they closed schools and then, five days later, Eva still had to go into the city to pick up her school-issued laptop. Here's an idea. The DOE has our address. Why not distribute the school laptops to the nearest DOE school, which is a short walk away, and let her pick it up there rather than making her travel from the Island to midtown?

Yeah, it's not too well thought out, agreed. What if for financial, physical or other reasons a student can't travel (especially "not that hellaciously far")? No laptop for them? Pretty screwed up.

Well, that's her usual daily commute. Those reasons weren't applicable here, we hadn't fled the city entirely.

But her school laptop should've been pick-up-able near us, not at her school.
