... as opposed to his perfect Italian? What did this guy expect, to not speak Italian but everyone would speak perfect English?

That said, it does sound like an ordeal. But did he really think going to Italy was a good idea? For that matter, why did the travel agent not advise against it, unless I missed that part?

I will say that the agent may need to have helped out with the airport stuff, since apparently they weren't getting anywhere on their own. However, that might not be the normal course, in which case it isn't their fault. I went back and re-read. I think I misunderstood a detail. No, there was nothing more they could've done.

ETA: And to the main point, WHO THE HELL BREAKS ONTO A PLANE? You're absolutely right that he's lucky. They should have been in trouble. They probably only got off because security could tell they were stupid rather than dangerous.

A couple days ago I read an advice column with another stupid guy goes to Italy story, only this one never actually got there. He wanted to move his wedding to Italy because it was cheap. The bride's parents, who were paying, rolled their eyes and said OK, but made sure to insure everything. So when, surprise surprise, all the Italian venues were cancelled, the parents got their money back. (And they had to scrape through the wedding on the cheap, because they'd also canceled the original venues when they moved it to Italy.)

But it's the parents who are writing, because now their daughter and her cheapskate husband are mad at her parents for not giving them all the money.

I couldn't even read the whole thing. People are losing their loved ones, jobs, doctors in Italy are letting anyone over 65 die, and this guy is complaining because he decided to take a vacation during a pandemic?

Yeah, that's a very self-centered worldview of said Sad Puppy, and I'll bet the reactions of the airline people were in complete proportion to the amount of bad behavior and attitude on display.

A friend of mine flew through, IIRC, Frankfurt once. There was a bit of a commotion on the field. Seems someone got too close to the fuel storage tanks and security shot them dead. No warning, just shot dead.

Yeah, dude is lucky. Very entitled SOB.

Right. So he decides to go on holiday to somewhere where some cities were already in lockdown, and assumed that the army were going to enforce security over people trying to escape areas where the health system is overwhelmed. Which is a much more logical thing to do than TO GO ON FUCKING HOLIDAY. The stupid, it burns.
