"This book was interesting. I first thought it would be about this boy Bud's story. But it turned into a story about the Depression and how hard it was on the Black people."

And the weird statement of the day, from a different review of the same book...

"I also didn't like how Bud kept talking about his mom. I know she died, but most people would prefer not to talk about their loss."

What the hell? Where did you learn to human, and can you get a refund on the course?

So... that was clearly Bud's story? Assuming Bud was a black character living in the Great Depression.

I was occasionally steered away from "that sort of conversation" in the first couple of months after my father died. This is more common that I suspect we want to believe.

I ask myself this all the time whenever I venture outside or watch the news. It seems a common problem. =\

Not talking about the Pandemic of 1919 was a thing. Like, one discipline had to find out about it from another and then track it down. That's how oblique people were.

"...I know she died, but most people would prefer not to talk about their loss."

That's not right.

I mean, that's what people DID "back in the day" but that doesn't make it right.

It's NATURAL to want to talk to someone when processing stress and grief. NOT being ABLE to do so fucks up a lot of people.
