I keep trying to add things to my Christmas menu. I do know that one chicken, one ham slice, two hasselback squashes, brussels sprouts, creamed spinach, wild rice, carrots, and mashed potatoes is enough for six people even before we add in the three types of pie. SO WHY DO I WANT TO MESS WITH THE MENU NOW!?

Because you've obviously not produced enough leftovers.

Old habits die hard? (planning, overplanning, anxiety, forgetting that you already solved past mistakes, all of the above)

A hypothesis I read, liked, and am too untalented to translate properly is that it's generations of hungry ancestors wanting to mess with your menu, not you. Did you have a grandmother who went without during the Depression? A grandpa that greeted 1944 hungry in the trenches? A great-great who lost siblings in the Irish famine?

No :) Plenty of people grow up in foster homes, Switzerland, high-ranking Party families, and families of Americans exempt from drafts. Also, not everyone's WWII grandpa got to see trenches.
