I have been hearing reports of companies shifting to the Republic from the UK for a while now. I worry about Ireland having the Troubles come back.

It's amazing to look at how many people have been killed in the name of religion, you'd hope that "we" as the human race could rise above it.  I would hope that the Troubles would be gone for good, but just in the last year there's been killings. Sadly I'm a pessimist about the human race maturing.  Some countries seem more mature than others, few of them English-speaking (Canada and NZ seem more mature than the other English-speakers to me, which isn't to say they're flawless).
