It doesn't seem to hurt her, and google suggests that it's almost certainly nothing (and possibly one of her ribs, in fact) so I'll leave this to her next scheduled appointment at the end of the month.
We took Cuton to the dog groomer to get his winter coat off. When we picked him up, the groomer said "look, I don't know if it's anything serious, but he has this lump." It was on his hip, about 4 inches long and an inch wide, and had been hidden under the spaniel fur.
So I ZOOMED him to the vet, sat there very disconsolate until she was free, then took him in.
One of my late cats, many years ago, had a couple small lumps similar in location to what you've described.
Biopsy results turned out to be simple lipomas - benign fat lumps. For whatever reason, as that particular cat got older, he accumulated a few of these things. (Considering at the time, the other cat had the dreaded cancer, I was just glad I didn't have 2 cancer cats at once....)
Realistically speaking, if MP did have cancer instead of the much more probable benign whatever - well, that's that. We love our dog, but my mother has gotten super sick every year for the past few years and we love her more.
See if you can pinch the skin and if it then comes with the skin. From what I understand from Marinetti (who was covered in them), that means Definite Cyst.
I'm sure it's nothing, but *hugs* I'm sure it's scary to find. I'd say as long as it doesn't get bigger, you're good to wait too. <3 I hope it is nothing!
One of my cats had a lump on the underside of her ribs. I freaked out, too, but it turns out she'd broken her rib some years before we got her, and the lump was just a piece of broken bone that had healed wonky.

He had an identical lump on the other side.
They're quite common. The non-scientific name?
Love handles.
Thanks, dog. You're on a diet now.
