Some doggies were very excited by this development, although a bit baffled as to why treats kept going into jars instead of their mouths. (Some treats made it into their mouths despite my best efforts. How can I say no to those faces?)

On a related note, I must find a place to put Callie's box scratcher.

I don't even have working name for those in my head, and there's like...*counts*...3 or 4 of them around here, at least. I think when I do name them they're scratchers or cardboard scratchers.

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) — When the gunman advanced toward the mosque, killing those in his path, Abdul Aziz didn’t hide. Instead, he picked up the first thing he could find, a credit card machine, and ran outside screaming “Come here!”

Aziz, 48, is being hailed as a hero for preventing more deaths during Friday prayers at the Linwood mosque in Christchurch after leading the gunman in a cat-and-mouse chase before scaring him into speeding away in his car.

The causes of ME/CFS are disputed, but the WHO has been tracking it as an infectious disease since the 1930's, and the EFFECTIVE treatments for it are similar to the treatments for HIV.

Exercise and cognitive behavioral therapy are terrific, but they won't cure HIV, and they won't cure ME either, because it is an infectious disease, not a fucking psychological problem. One of my dearest friends has had it for 30 years; her extremely expensive medical treatment comprises anti-viral and anti-inflammatory drugs, complicated immune-system support, and almost total rest, meaning she gets to walk from the bed to the couch, and to the bathroom, and that's just about it.

If exercise and CBT could have done anything for this actual disease, she'd have been totally cured half a century ago. Therefore, I say YAY! if the quacks who still think ME is a mental illness are being driven the hell out of the field. They're right up there with the other quacks pushing supplements and diet books.

If it was lymphoma we were talking about here, or multiple sclerosis, or lupus, the absurdity of claiming CBT and exercise as 'curative' would be instantly clear. Part of the problem is that ME/CFS, like autism, is diagnosed solely on the basis of reported symptoms, because the condition is defined by a constellation of symptoms - not all of which necessarily present in any given patient, and all of which may be symptomatic of other conditions as well. Calling a condition "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" is like calling one "Chronic Cough Syndrome".

Of course, people with chronic coughs don't commonly get told that it's all in their heads, and they're only coughing because they have a psychological need to see themselves as sick, and if they'd just start jogging their lungs would clear right up.
