If I come in from a walk with him, he'll go upstairs without waiting for me, when he got tired snuggling with me earlier today he went up to my bed, that sort of thing.

This is a huge step that's literally a year and a half in development. Simply enormous!

Yes, seeing him slowly adapt to this idea that he doesn't need to be on a human's lap 24/7 is so amazing. Of course, earlier today he looked for me in the wrong room, didn't see me, and immediately began jumping around and howling. It's baby steps.

Our adopted pup Douglas still pees on the floor in a mix of anxiety and excitement any time someone comes home and it has been three and a half years yet he has grown so much in other ways. As you say, it is baby steps.

In Finn's case, as a poodle, I'm choosing to believe that this is just a breed issue rather than an abandonment issue, because god knows I hate his previous owners enough. Edit: Sorry, it takes very little to tip me over onto that topic.

Love the Sage of Raspberry Pi! I tried to get one when they were first coming out (and again about a year later) and simply couldn't. I was one of those kids programming in BASIC (on a mainframe, back in years beginning 197....), and later on early desktops. I remember just how frustrated I was as computers became "user friendly" and programmer hostile, to the point where they are now. I'm not a Luddite, but I'd be hard put to code anything these days.

Looks like it's time to try acquiring a little bit of dessert again...and maybe relearning to code. Hey, it's just another language, right?

A blind acquaintance once wound up falling into an excavation beside the sidewalk because someone tried to "help" him avoid it (the blind guy *knew* it was there).

But this "helpful(not!) person *grabbed* him to try to steer him away from it. and the ensuing (natural) reaction to getting grabbed did the rest.

Folks, if you want to "help" ASK FIRST.
