Really got into the last storyline in Dumbing of Age

in which Sal is Sal and Amber is Amber and everybody has some real growth and emotional resolutions. Somewhat less enthused about the current one, which appears to be about Walky being Walky and Billie being annoying... I mean... there's a lot less to work with there. I just don't like them as much. (Also, somebody seriously needs to shake Joyce and make her stop... being... like that.)

It amuses me that I read this on the day that the punchline is, "I dunno. That's just missing something visceral."

Joyce has layers of "being like that." It weirdly feels like backwards progress when she's grown so much in some ways and not in others.

It's like the more she peels that onion, the worse each layer is.

I'd say something about "once you add heat, they stop making you want to weep tears of frustration," but she just discovered slashfic... I mean,eventually she grows up and becomes David Willis, apparently, but there's a long, bumpy road between there and here.

Joyce... is a comic relief character, though. I think that's kind of like watching Seinfeld and hoping that Kramer will stop being like Kramer.

And let's face it, assuming that her plan within the comic from the last few days appears to work out positively (and it most likely will, because... you know) then she's only going to become MORE like she currently is.

Given that Willis has said that she's a lot like he was back then, I'm not sure she IS intended as straight-up comic relief.
