I do believe that it should be mentioned that sandals are not a very clever option here abouts.

Clever-er than barefoot, I imagine :)

No, not at all, because if one is barefoot the snow won't stick, but in sandals it slides under the foot, melts and then stays at about 0°C because of the snow that is constantly touching it.
