Took her to the vet. Had to stay until midnight and now we have to dose the cat twice a day for the next ten days.

Ugh.

(Plus, although the vet reassured us that she probably will not get sick from rabies, that not being terribly common around here, I'm well aware that her shot is expired by a few months and we were too late for her to get an emergency booster. We're officially "observant but not concerned" and unofficially "worried as hell". I only don't like this cat because she doesn't like my cats, otherwise I like her fine. I like all cats. Anyway, stopping the spread of rabies is everybody's responsibility.)

(Rabies vaccines tend to last about six months longer than intended per year they were intended to last. That extends if it's not the first dose. This isn't a scienced thing, just an observation I don't have the spoons to source right now but that grew to be near consensus a few years back if I recall.)

There are studies that indicate that pet dogs probably only need their first shot and booster (good for three years) a year later for life-time coverage. If you have a reasonable vet, the following article indicates a rabies booster would still help: http://news.vin.com/vinnews.aspx?articleId=37097

Actually, you are probably all set:

"the guidance for handling pets suspected of rabies exposure and that are overdue for rabies vaccinations is not definitive. It states that they “should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis based upon severity of exposure, time elapsed since last vaccination, number of previous vaccinations, current health status, and local rabies epidemiology to determine need for euthanasia or immediate revaccination and observation/isolation.”

Yeah, I hear ya on that one. Having to 'purrito' a cat to give it meds is on the list of frustrating things people sometimes have to do.

i don't like the idea of connecting people's brains. i'm pretty sure that's how the borg got started.

most likely not. but whil connecting people's brains might have some benefit, it seems creepy to me. and plus we can't protect computer networks from being hacked, so i shudder to think what could happen if someone could hack into a person's mind.
