Jones Beach is fun for a walk. I like the East End beaches better for actually laying out/swimming, though (and at that, I like the bays the best) because there are less people and more privacy and freedom of movement.

/says someone who hasn't been on a NY beach in over 20 years, I can't even imagine now

That postal voting article is seriously too optimistic on security. The actual serious recent incidents of attempted electoral fraud in the UK (which our government is using as an excuse to bring in US-Republican-style ID checks at polling stations designed to intimidate and exclude poorer voters) generally involved abuse of postal voting schemes. (Such as persuading elderly people with dementia to register for postal votes and filling in the ballot papers without telling them.)

Jones Beach on Long Island, NY? I grew up in Nassau county. We used to go to that beach when I was a kid. *grin*

I am hoping that we'll be having our cherry festival up here on the mountain. Normally there's signage up, but I didn't notice it yesterday when I went down, and it definitely wasn't up Tuesday when we went down to pick up our dogs from the kennel.

Today, theoretically, I'll be a little more conscious when I go down. I'm not sure how good the weather has been over the last year in terms of how it relates to a quality cherry harvest. The previous two harvest have been freakin' amazing.

I can't help but wonder how long of a trip it is? Some folk think 1 hr is long, others think that 10 hours isn't far...

I have a number of friends who are parasailing on foilboards. They'll make 20 mile trips in the ocean with those setups, along the shoreline. Those things are seriously amazing to watch.

I'm still creaking towards death on The audible recording (66 hours! ) If The Power Broker about Robert Moses and his lurve for LI parks and parkways and making Jones beach accessible. It's highly repetitive and detailed and maddening but was great value for my credit and also highly interesting background on the nightmares and successes of today's city.
