Why, oh why, do people insist on using chtspk?

It is evil. It takes longer to type. If you get used to it, it can make typing normally too hard. It takes longer to read, thus demonstrating a complete lack of respect for your audience. Some forms of chtspk and l337 can wreak havoc with textreaders, making it impossible to read. It makes you appear ignorant, meaning that people are less likely to 'listen' to you.

Chtspk. Just say no.

You're preachin' to the choir, sister. ;) I only use l337 in the presence of like-minded fellows.
