It is evil. It takes longer to type. If you get used to it, it can make typing normally too hard. It takes longer to read, thus demonstrating a complete lack of respect for your audience. Some forms of chtspk and l337 can wreak havoc with textreaders, making it impossible to read. It makes you appear ignorant, meaning that people are less likely to 'listen' to you.

Chtspk. Just say no.

Y O Y DO PEOPLE INSIST ON USNG CHTSPK

Heh. When I first read "chtspk" I read "chapstick" and thought you were making a comment about that:) I can't read most chtspk. I have no idea what "l337" means.

leet is those people that would type leet as L337. They mix numbers and letters to make words. In the filter I posted below stick in a website url and choose hacker from the list then click dialectize. You will see what leet speak is then.

I saw chtspk and thought shitspeak or cheatspeak and thought hugh. I still don't know what that word(chtspk) means.

Ahh I've heard that called AOL speak or internet shorthand. Though internet shorthand is more acros. I can use some acros but I find in some places on the net people go overkill and I can't translate what they were trying to say.

You know there are programs that make the leet speak for people. I've written something in leet speak on a geek post once long ago in another land. But it was very hard for me to do and I have serious difficulty reading such posts.

Though for amusement sake there is:

http://rinkworks.com/dialect/

which does more than leet. Personally I actually find that funny the more technical a page. It was quite funny to see my ex boyfriends vnc page through a few of those filters.

That is funny. It's really difficult for me to try and translate leet back into something that makes sense@_@

Yes though oddly some people can do it. I can only do it semi easy if say I used that filter and put yahoo in or something else I'm familiar with. But I really hate it when I'm on some message board and someone starts speaking alot of leet. Then there are the ones with the aol language or whatever the term is. They use "u" for you. When my sons done that I reminded him I know he can type better so please don't type that other way as it's hard to read and better for school if he types in normal english.

You're preachin' to the choir, sister. ;) I only use l337 in the presence of like-minded fellows.
