So many great links, thanks as always for the fabulous roundup!

The Mycenaean tomb is a once in a generation find, so glad discoveries are still being made despite the many cuts to so many grants and programs that fund them.

I read about the Barnes & Noble news earlier this week and it's upsetting on so many levels. I used to work for them during university and I'm devastated to think those whose lives are now upended when they'd been so loyal.

Rikers closing is a long time coming and hopefully things will improve with the transition to local facilities. There's a lot of upheaval and change going on in NY correctional facilities at the municipal state, and federal levels these days - some for the good and some for the drastically worse. I'm hoping the Rikers closure will lean on the good end.

Supporting Strand and small booksellers is still awesome!

Re: Rikers
It will definitely be a hot mess at first during the transition as the local facilities scramble to meet demand and secure funding. Still between this and the universal free school breakfast & lunch program, not to mention the dismissal of decades old arrest warrants for nonviolent offenses, I'm hopeful NYC will continue to trend progressively. Watch as I say this and then we'll suddenly have a super conservative mayor undo everything and figuratively burn the place down. >_<;
