Re: Old TVs
Date: 2018-02-13 09:10 pm (UTC)Sony’s hulking 40-inch Trinitron from 2002,
one of the biggest consumer CRTs ever produced,
weighed over 300 pounds.
I lived at one point in an apartment that had what I called a “lunar landing TV” - it was a vacuum-tube cabinet monster that de facto came with the apartment because it couldn’t be moved by anything short of construction equipment! It did everything but work; I recognized that at least one of the tubes had gassed. In theory I could have fixed it. (Vacuum tubes are still being made! Their biggest consumer is the US military, because electromagnetic pulse (EMP) that would fry solid-state microchips wouldn’t even get a De Forest valve’s attention.)

Date: 2018-02-14 03:11 am (UTC)I still have an old Wii, and still occasionally play a side game in one of Nintendo's omnibus titles. I don't play nearly as much as I used to, though. Can't make it to the same top scores.
Lag. I dropped me to a high of 58K to a high of 43K. No point in practicing; I just play for grins very, very seldom now.
That was an eye opener.
