Apr. 19th, 2017 01:25 ammy mother realized she wasn't sure if a fan of Gilbert and Sullivan is called a "Savoyard" or not. (That is the correct term.) I had to call Jenn and ask her, because it was driving the two of us batty. They're named after the Savoy, where G&S operas were performed.
Which I guess means that fans of Shakespeare are called Globetrotters. I am very much in favor of this.
Savoyard is also the name of a dialect of Arpitan, spoken by a few thousand people at the border of Italy and France.
