Though it'll sound maudlin and self-pitying, it's really not. No, really.

Why are people I know online different from the people I know in real life?

Most people I know online either like me, don't like me BUT don't mindlessly attack me, or don't like me and are universally recognized as being stupid. Or they're indifferent.

In real life, people fall more into the categories of: love me, kinda like me, tolerate me, mindlessly attack me for no apparent reason. And the indifferents. The last group, in real life, is generally seen by the large number of indifferent people as either being funny or not being wrong enough to stop, but online, they're seen as being stupid and worth yelling at. And of course, people wonder why I prefer you guys :)

So, seriously. Why is there a difference? Do you think you'd be friendly with me (however friendly you are) if you'd met me in real life first? For those of you who know me in both situations (I think there's THREE), am I different?

I was the only one to actually see this, so I get to post.

Seth stood up today. Alone.

NOT "pulled up and then let go" but "went from sitting to standing without holding on to anything".

Only for a few seconds, but then he sat down, he didn't fall down, and it was on a bed instead of on the floor, so it must've been harder.

I was SO impressed. This is me, being impressed. I'll post this on [livejournal.com profile] sethana later. I posted backdated entries summarizing the past 10 months (a little inaccurately, but nobody knows that) already, so it's time for NEW stuff.

I have a tendancy to compare the babies to kittens at various developmental stages, mostly because 1. I understand cats and 2. I'm used to kittens, while I'm not really that used to babies. And 3. it's funny to see Lizziey or Jenn complain that I'm calling their kids like they were cats (though that's not why I do it all the time, most of the time it's out of habit).

However, this tendancy, while useful, can go a bit far. Today, I was trying to get a booger out of Seth's nose so he could breathe (he's a little sick) and he was, of course, trying to squirm away from me. Now, I've been in similar situations with kittens and somewhat slow cats (most cats knew better than to try that) so I found myself automatically reaching around the back of his neck for the nape! *giggles* The nape is the fold of skin on the back of the neck that mama cats pick up newborns with. They reflexively curl up and stay still when you do that. It's VERY DANGEROUS to pick up a full grown cat that way, and the curl up reflex is gone, but they still will calm down if you hold the nape (often, not always, and not forever). Also, it IS a good way to keep them still if you're doing something where they CANNOT move, like clipping their claws (which I've never done, I didn't want to risk cutting them) or defleaing them (FLEAS. KILL.) so I started to do that out of habit... and freaked when I realized that there WAS NO NAPE.

Of course not, Connie. This is a human baby, not a kitten. Babies don't have napes. *rolls eyes*

Anyway, this is a nice segue (never segway) into my theory of spanking... but I'll post that in the morning, when you've digested this bit of info.

Djusk' a!

Now, you all need to know that I dislike Heather-dear intensely, she's one of the few people I actually DO dislike, and (without going into details) I think she's highly manipulative. I don't put up with that from my MOM, so I'm not putting up with it from her.

Most of you don't know her, and some of you are her friends, and none of this is relevant, so I'm stopping this here with the statement that I don't like her.

However, I do miss one thing about her. She was the first one to call me Captain, and now nobody else does that. And all these nickname memes are reminding me, I *liked* that nickname.

Yeah, I was raised Connie, yeah, most people call me Uly online, yeah, I love the Conuly in my LJ, yeah, if you don't recognize me as Ulyyf you are a relative newcomer to my life... but Captain had a nice ring to it. *grumblesighs*

Now, I do NOT think that Israel is deliberately making things worse. Not because I think that everyone is nice and full of sunshine and roses, but because, while I lack faith in human goodness, I maintain faith in human stupidity. Manipulations on this level would mean that officials there are far smarter than I can reasonably give them credit for being.

However, attributing the idiocy of escalating the situation to stupidity works well. They do the same things they've always done because they've always done it, even though it doesn't work. The terrorist groups do the same. Not because it's a vast conspiracy, but because humans are inherantly dumb.

Like the poster I'm pissed at. Saying "this government is making so many mistakes that I think it might be intentional" is not at all the same as saying "all Jews are evil". It's just NOT. And then denying that you made that claim when your words are RIGHT IN PLAIN SIGHT is really stupid. Calling somebody an anti-semitic nazi for not supporting Israel means that you equate anti-Israeli sentiment with anti-semitism, which, again, is stupid. I won't even bother to explain why, it just is.

Edit, that's not even what he said. He said something more like "it's almost as though they're trying to make things worse" which, while that could be construed as an accusation, it could just as easily mean "they're making things worse and you'd think they'd know it by now".

I've mentioned before that vegans shouldn't have carnivorous pets. I'll mention it again. STICK TO RABBITS.

It's interesting, actually, that while this person says there's a huge difference between an animal hunting and an animal eating meat that's been raised in poor conditions, his reasons for not letting his cat out is "he would turn feral and hunt". Either there's a difference or there isn't.... *deep sigh*

Anyway, let's ignore that, and go to the funny part. Humans aren't animals! We're mammals!

That girl is damn stupid.*

Cats and Dogs don't need to hunt because, being domesticated, they don't have to.

Both cats and dogs were long bred to be hunters... cats doing mousing, dogs doing either dogfighting or hunting with people, or more mousing. Domestication doesn't come into it. Yes, YOUR cat and dog probably don't need to hunt, but that's not because they're domesticated, it's because they're fed. A cat or dog in the wild is still a member of a domesticated species, but they'll still hunt.

Arguments of "instinct", etc. as regards Cats and Dogs are a bit meaningless since being domesticated they are already out of their normal habitat to begin with.

A domesticated species is IN its natural habitat when it's with humans. Sorry, ducky.

Neither of those statements is particularily stupid, but saying humans aren't animals is. And then saying that they don't mean in the general sense but in a biological sense? *cracks up*

If you are speaking Biologically, yes there is a big difference between animals and mammals. Where there are some similarities between humans and animals definition-wise, there are also some very great differences-some of those include that humans have the ability to think and to reason whereas, have the ability to communicate on a much higher level than that of animals.

*shakes head in shame*

*I never edit or delete posts if I can help it, because it seems dishonest, but I've spoken to the girl in question, and she seems more ignorant than stupid. With a good reason, involving a lot of moving around and the public educational system. So, my apologies are offered.
