Hey, is it possible, do you think, to train a cat to hack up hairballs in a designated location?

The cat nearly coughed one up on Jenn's head today, and while that's hilarious it still had to be cleaned up later.

No, I think it's probably not. How often does the cat hack up hairballs, anyway? Surely not often enough that you could establish a systematic reward for coughing them up in a designated place - or if so, would be better to brush the cat regularly and give it some hairball medicine.

This is the second in two weeks. Which is actually a little strange for a short-haired cat, come to think. I should keep an eye on her, maybe she's eating something funky that's not helping.

It's the shedding season. My kitty-boy's got very short, fine fur, but right now it's puffing out in clumps; I brush him as much as he'll tolerate, but there's still cat hair everywhere. I'm sure the weather's hotter where you are, so your kitty may be shedding more. Fleas are a cause of hairballs, because they cause excess licking and grooming, so make sure she hasn't got any.

She hasn't got any manners is what she hasn't got. If I thought I could offload this cat on some other poor sap I would in a heartbeat. We note that she's getting friendlier, but friendlier is a relative term. I'm not sure she'll tolerate any brushing or combing, is the problem.
